BBQ is always a good time.
The second to last image is a good example of a made-for-print composition - the BBQ sauce is too strong in this composition , but not when in the gutter of a two page spread. ;) this is just a sampling from an afternoon shooting
. You provide the opportunity, I make ya look good.

Respecting already-beautiful compositions and situations as they are takes some restraint...
...and some kickass artificial lighting. This post inspired by a recent compliment on the first image for it's natural light. (It's not)

Working on some see-through images of these submersible thrusters for @seamormarine - because quality deserves quality. Give me something that appears simple, and I'll find a way to express it's quality.
Also, remote operated underwater vehicles? Count me in. <3

Light, science and magic. @seamormarine

A client brought in two unpublished children's stories that her husband illustrated in the late 1970's. Initially the impetus was just to keep safe and document, but now after capture and restoration, they may also get a new life in print. Beautiful to see traditionally laid out books illustrated in a large format... and special to bring art back out of the darkness. I did a lot of cool assignments this last week, but this feels meaningful.

A nice bonus to capturing art is often having the artist in studio for a couple hours... Fun conversations and collaborative spirit, somehow we get the job done too. Artists are remarkable that way. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Art documentation for my friends @aylelum

My work: Clean, curated, commercial
My play: Fuji instax "zinstax" hacked on a Mamiya RZ - film, but instant, beautifully imperfect. No computers, but also no fussing with "real" film either... My perfect balance.

A great morning documenting art from the permanent collection @nanaimoartgallery - some pieces hang in offices of the Art Gallery staff, and it's fun extra insight to see who has chosen what to hang in their space! Art is a conversation after all. <3

Another nice shoot completed for Artist, @nanettemoss - we did some portraits, some process, and some copy work to show you all the new pieces on their website. Thanks Nanette!

Total nerd for great lighting on these Wizard skates - all sorts of fun quality materials and textures to reveal (carbon! Machined metal! Curves, hard edges, shiny bits! The best.
This was a fun product shoot, with many environments and variables... and horses. From style, to product detail, to action, we rode off into the sunset for sure that day.
An incredible welcome home to #snuneymuxw #nanaimo for #olympicgoldmedalist @ethankatzberg
As the rain comes down today, it's a good time to look back on a summer of spectacular food and wine from the Cowichan Valley at @unsworthvineyards
...don't mistake this for some melancholic reflection of summer, because the arrival of Fall means some new menu items to explore are on the way!

A little splish splash with @intuitionsports - it's funny, I do have all sorts of fun laser or sound triggers, but snapping these by feel is honestly as good at this point of experience. 😂
Also a good thing to do at the end of a long day of production, floor is wet and ready for a moppin' 🫧
One of my favourite images from @nanaimoartgallery 's current show "Double Vision" showed up in today's gallery e-newsletter. Typically I'm trying to objectively capture the show and patron/art interactions.. but once in a while I can't help myself to flex on a theme. I watched this shadow all evening until it crept up on to the wall, then waited again for the perfect subject to pull a slow shutter speed shot capturing some motion in an otherwise still scene.
Come see the show, on until September 15th!
